Apple Pie With A Twist
Apple Pie but the Polish way. SZARLOTKA!
Ingredients:
- 300g All purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla sugar
- 250g butter
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 egg
For the Filling
- 1,5 kg apples
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons of sugar.
- Icing sugar to sprinkle on top
Recipe:
1. Combine flour, sugar, vanilla sugar, baking powder, butter in chunks and egg into a dough.
2. Form a ball with the dough, cover and put in the fridge for the time being of making apple filling.
3. Wash the apples, peel and grate them. Mix grated apples with 2 tablespoons of sugar and cook them on a medium heat until they look like a mousse. If the mousse is too water, cook until the water dissolves. Add cinnamon to the mixture.
4. Place non-stick parchment paper in a 24cm x 24cm square form.
5. Take out the dough mixture out of the fridge, spread half of the dough in the square form so it fills the form.
6. Spread the apple filling completely over the dough. Tear pieces from the rest of the dough and place on top of the apple filling.
7. Bake at 180 degrees for about 40-55 minutes, whilst checking from time to time. When golden brown take out your cake and sprinkle some icing sugar on top. Let it cool and enjoy!
*Enjoy with a scoup of your favourite ice cream😋*
